iPhone 18 Charger UK: What You Actually Need
Apple still doesn't put a charger in the box. Here is the honest answer to what the iPhone 18 needs, what it doesn't, and why a £12.99 charger fills it just as fast as Apple's £49 one.

The short answer
Any USB-C Power Delivery charger rated 30W or above will charge an iPhone 18 at its fastest wired speed. No iPhone generation has yet drawn more than about 27W, and the phone requests only the power it needs — so a 45W, 65W or 100W charger fills it at exactly the same rate as a 30W one. The extra wattage is useful for charging other things simultaneously, not for charging the phone faster.

What is settled, and what isn't
Plenty of “iPhone 18 charging” coverage states a peak wattage as fact. Apple does not publish one, and the real figure is only known once independent testing lands. Here is the honest split — and why it doesn't change what you should buy.
Settled: It charges over USB-C
Every iPhone since the 15 series uses USB-C. The EU common-charger rule makes a return to Lightning a practical impossibility.
Settled: No charger in the box
Apple has shipped iPhones without a mains adapter since the iPhone 12. Expect a cable at most.
Settled: A 30W+ USB-C PD charger will max it out
The phone requests the power it wants; the charger supplies it. Headroom above the phone’s ceiling is never forced into the battery.
Not yet confirmed: The exact peak wattage
Apple does not publish a wattage figure, and real peak draw is only known once independent testing lands. Every iPhone so far has peaked at or below ~27W.
Not yet confirmed: Any change to MagSafe or Qi2 speed
Qi2 wireless has been 15W on recent models. Treat any higher figure as unconfirmed until tested.
Why the unknowns don't matter: USB Power Delivery is a negotiation. Even if the iPhone 18 peaks higher than any previous model, a 45W or 65W charger already has the headroom to supply it. Buying above 30W future-proofs you regardless of what the final number turns out to be.

The cable matters more than people think
The most common reason an iPhone charges slowly on a good charger is the cable. You need USB-C to USB-C. A USB-A to USB-C cable cannot negotiate Power Delivery properly and caps you at roughly 12W no matter what the charger is rated for.
Beyond that, almost any modern cable is fine: 3A (60W) is double what the phone will draw. A 100W E-Marker cable does no harm — it is simply more capability than a phone can use, and the same cable then also runs a MacBook at full speed.
Wireless: convenient, not fast
Recent iPhones charge at up to 15W on Qi2 and MagSafe — around half the wired speed, and less efficient, so more of the energy becomes heat. That makes wireless ideal for a bedside or desk top-up and a poor choice when you are about to leave the house.

Buying Apple’s 30W adapter for £49
It has one port and charges your iPhone at exactly the same speed as a £12.99 three-port GaN charger. You are paying for the logo.
Reusing an old 5W cube
A 5W charger takes roughly three hours to fill an iPhone. It works, but you lose fast charging entirely.
Using a USB-A to USB-C cable
USB-A cannot negotiate USB-C Power Delivery properly. You are capped around 12W regardless of what the charger is rated for.
Assuming a higher-wattage charger is dangerous
It is not. The phone’s charge controller draws only what it needs. A 100W charger and a 30W charger fill an iPhone at the same rate.
Buying an uncertified charger to save £4
Cheap unregulated adapters skip proper voltage regulation. Look for CE/UKCA marking as a minimum.
